Furious Fiction

The Australian Writers’ Centre runs a 500 word flash fiction competition over the first weekend of the month called ‘Furious Fiction’.

They set specific criteria each month which the story must meet, but besides that you’ve got full creative control. The criteria may be words that need to be included, bookend requirements of your story (e.g. first and last word of the story must start with ‘J’) or even emojis you need to interpret. As long as you meet the criteria for the month, your story is under 500 words, and you are over 17, you can enter.

So far, I have failed to place in the short or long list. But they are getting over 1500 entries a month, so I guess I can’t be too hard on myself. It does mean that my stories are disappearing into the ether when they don’t place. So, for the stories I like, I’m going to post them on my blog.

This is what we’ve got so far:

April 2020 – Stakeholder Liaison
May 2020 – Brother

The journey of a spec fic writer.
