If you see me on the street there’s a good chance I won’t see you. I’ll be in Natalie-world. I go there a lot... during the bus ride into town, in the line-up at the supermarket, or when anyone starts talking about code at work.
Natalie-world can be funny, futuristic, magical, or horrific. Often it is a mix of these things. I don’t control Natalie-world, I just sit back and watch. When I watch the same story often enough, I’ll end up putting it down on paper.
Most writers will tell you that when you’re always steeped in stories you can never be afraid of ‘alone time’ – because you are never alone. Characters are always whispering in your ear. At the moment I’m lucky if I get five hours a week to write. I’d easily spend ten times as long visiting imaginary worlds: our future destroyed planet, nonsense realities and dark places that were borne of my nightmares. Yes, sharing them gets them out.
As for my background I believe that everything is material, so I’ve spent my life collecting different experiences. I’ve had more careers than most people have jobs (yes, I really have tried everything from air traffic control to zoology). And I’ve been lucky enough to live in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Luton (UK), Melbourne and Sydney. After 15 years away, I now find myself back in Adelaide and have surprised myself by loving it.
2021 marks the second decade of running this site, and i have finally updated it. i know there is a lot more to do to make it look good, but i'm getting there slowly.
In the meantime, please read some of my writing on my short fiction page. It’s quite a mix of genres and styles, but if you keep looking you’re sure to find something you like.
Enjoy
