4. The Chaos Crystal – Jennifer Fallon
The final book of the Tide Lords series was all that I hoped it would be, without the Hollywood happy endings or the tragedy for tragedy’s sake. It left a future for some of the characters (whom I will not name), and while that means there could be another book in the series, I really hope there isn’t as I think it is wonderful when a book can leave you wondering about what the characters might be up to ‘now’.
When a series is as well fleshed out, and beautifully peopled as Jennifer’s books are, I think it is good for the author to leave the novel in such a way that the reader can make their own decisions about where the characters go next. So my overall impression of the Tide Lords series is that it is well worth the commitment, and if yu can read them in close successions (as I did) that is even better.
To finish I would like to show you this:
By coincidence I came across this video just days after I finished reading The Chaos Crystal. In the book one of the characters uses trapped methane to light a chamber built in the ice, which at the time I read it I thought was a bit farfetched. So imagine my surprise when I saw this so soon after reading the book. The cool factor fades quickly as you realise what a massive natural disaster this may herald for us in this world.
